Mobile IM

I have a nokia phone running talks currently and i am trying to use the mobile IM client to log into my AIN, MSN and or Yahoo accounts, all of which are supported according to the phones manual. However when i navigate to instant message on the phone and select it Talks doesn't say anything else. So is the built in nokia mobile IM client not accessable and i have to use a third party IM app, or is it something wrong with my phone? If it is the case that i have to use a 3rd party IM app on my phone ..any reccomendations?

IM plus also appears to be a paid program i was trying to avoid using a paid program if i could
